Kong Kong King King King: What Song Is That Keyboard Meme?

The "kong kong king king king" keyboard video is Stromae's "Alors on danse" (2009). Why people call it that, how to tell it's the right clip, every name the trend goes by, and where the white-studio scene comes from.

oct. 14, 2026

You saw two people in a white room, one tapping a tiny keyboard, the other pointing and laughing, and the tune stuck in your head as something like kong kong, king king king. You typed that into a search bar and got a page of King Kong songs.

Short answer: the song is "Alors on danse" by Stromae, a Belgian artist, released in 2009. "Kong kong king king king" is not a title. It is the keyboard line spelled out by ear, and some AI video apps now use it as the name of the effect.

Why people call it "kong kong king king king"

Three things push people toward a nickname instead of the real title.

  1. They only know the tune. The scene is built around a short keyboard figure that repeats. If you can't place a melody, you write down what it sounds like, the same way people type "na na na" for a chorus they can't name.
  2. The real title is French. "Alors on danse" is hard to spell if you've only heard it. Google Trends shows people searching "alors on dance" and "alor on danse" alongside the right spelling.
  3. Apps named the effect after the sound. At least one AI video site lists the template as "KONG KONG KING KING KING", and its how-to post uses that name without once saying which song it is. That is how the nickname reached search.

Is this the clip you saw?

If most of these match, you are looking at the Alors on danse meme:

  • A bright white, almost empty studio.
  • One person seated at a small keyboard next to a laptop, tapping out the beat.
  • A second person standing beside them, nodding, pointing and acting like the boss.
  • A moment where the second person leans right into the camera, laughing.
  • An ending where both jog backwards away from the camera until they are tiny.
  • A French chorus on top of an electronic beat.

If there is no keyboard and no white room, you probably heard a different "King Kong" sound. Plenty of those exist, which is why the nickname search goes nowhere.

Why searching the nickname doesn't work

When we searched "kong kong king king king" on Google (US, October 2026), the first page was all songs with King Kong in the title: a 1970s funk track, rap songs, a SoundCloud artist. None of them is the meme. ABBA even has a 1974 "King Kong Song", which adds to the confusion.

Search engines match words, and these words belong to a giant ape. To find the meme, search the real title.

Where the white-studio clip comes from

The clip is not Stromae's official music video. It comes from a comedy sketch on French comedian Jamel Debbouze's 2010 DVD Made in Jamel. Jamel plays a guy who "shows" Stromae how to make the song and takes the credit for it. It was staged for laughs; Jamel had no part in writing the real song.

So the two people in the original are Stromae and Jamel Debbouze. The French meaning of the title, what the lyrics are about and the full backstory are in our post on what "alors on danse" means.

Why it's everywhere in 2026

The song has had TikTok moments before. Know Your Meme records a 2021 wave built on a slowed-down version, with group dance videos and parodies.

The keyboard version is newer. In late September 2026 an AI edit of the Jamel sketch, with Sam Altman and Dario Amodei swapped in, went viral. People then started putting themselves and their friends in the studio, which is why you now see the scene with strangers' faces and why a new crowd is asking what the song is.

Listening to the full song

Search Stromae "Alors on danse" on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube. It is on his 2010 album Cheese. Note that the official music video looks nothing like the white studio, so don't expect the keyboard scene there.
