Hip-hop has always loved a pair. A DJ and an MC, two friends from the same block, two brothers, an uncle and a nephew. Rap duos get something solo artists can't: a built-in conversation, two voices trading lines, and a chemistry you can hear.
This list ranks 15 of the best rap duos of all time. For each one you get the members, the years they were active, where they came from, one record to start with, and why they matter. Any ranking like this is a matter of taste, but every fact below is checked against the public record.

What makes a great rap duo
Looking across the list, the best rap duos tend to share a few things:
- Two distinct roles. Many classic duos split the work: one rapper and one producer (Gang Starr, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Eric B. & Rakim). When both members rap, their voices contrast, like André 3000 and Big Boi.
- A real relationship. Brothers (Clipse, Rae Sremmurd), childhood friends (8Ball & MJG, Kris Kross), family (Unc & Phew). Listeners can hear years of history in the back-and-forth.
- A clear sense of place. Atlanta, Queens, Port Arthur, Memphis, Miami. The best duos sound like where they came from.
- Chemistry over parity. Neither member has to be "the better rapper." What matters is how they bounce off each other.
Make your own rap duo
You don't need a record deal to see yourself in a duo. RapVideo AI turns two photos, one photo of both people, or a single photo (Solo) into a duo rap video in your browser, in about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Upload photos of you and your partner in crime: a best friend, a sibling, a partner, a coworker.
- Pick a stage: the orange Hotel Lobby booth, Luxury Lobby or Studio Booth.
- Write a topic of up to 120 characters, like "Best friends since fifth grade, still splitting one pizza." The rap follows the topic's language.
- Generate, wait a couple of minutes, and download.
There are two styles. New song writes original lyrics and music about your topic. Original remake uses the real "Hotel Lobby" recording instead, so it ignores the topic and needs two people.
The voices are AI voices, and there is no voice cloning, so your duo won't sound like any of the artists above. A standard video costs 10 credits (the single pack is $9.99 for 12 credits), and failed renders are refunded.
Use your own faces, and only include people who are happy to be in the video. RapVideo AI is independent and not affiliated with any of the artists listed here.
