The trend

What is the ghost photoshoot trend?

The look. A plain white bedsheet over your head with two eye holes, often a pair of sunglasses on top, posed somewhere ordinary: a leafy path, a field of dry grass, a vintage car, a bookshop. The joke is how calm and stylish the ghost looks.

Where it started. Know Your Meme traces it to a TikTok by @jackjanson88 in September 2020: a series of stills of him in a sheet on empty paths, about 977,000 views in six days. He credited the cover of Phoebe Bridgers' album Stranger in the Alps. Within days others copied it, sunglasses were added, and #GhostPhotoshoot passed 523 million views by 16 September 2020. Most posts use Jack Stauber's 2017 song "Oh Klahoma".

It comes back every October. In the US, Google searches for "ghost photoshoot" jump from about 2,000 a month to around 20,000 every October (2022 to 2025). Best-friend ghosts and dog ghosts are the versions that travel furthest: one Italian greyhound in a sheet passed 30 million TikTok views in 2023.

The AI version. No sheet, no photographer, no trip to a pumpkin patch. Add one photo, of yourself, a friend or your pet, and the effect shoots the whole thing, including the moment the sheet comes off so everyone knows it is you.

Four shots, one clip

What's in the 10 seconds

Every render follows the same little shoot, so it reads as the trend at a glance.

The sheet goes on

You on the path in your own clothes, smiling, then the white sheet goes over your head. On a pet, a small sheet drifts down and settles.

The ghost walk

Eye holes, round sunglasses, the hem lifting in the breeze and your own shoes (or paws) peeking out underneath.

Two posed shots

On a hay bale by the fence next to a little pumpkin. A shutter click and a soft flash, the frame holds like a photo, then a second pose.

The reveal

The sheet slides off and it is your face again, laughing; a dog's ears pop up and it looks straight into the lens.

The look

Golden-hour autumn trees, dry grass and soft 35mm film grain, the warm muted look of the original photoshoots.

The sound

A quirky original ukulele and whistle tune with a shutter click on each pose. Want "Oh Klahoma"? Add it from the TikTok sound library when you post.

Me and my dogTwo photos, one of the owner and one of the dog: two matching ghosts on the path.
Mom and daughterOne photo of the two of them together. Both go under a sheet and both come out laughing.
How to

How to do the ghost photoshoot with AI

Three steps from your phone. No sheet, no prompt, no app.

  1. 1

    Add a photo

A clear photo of you or your pet, face visible; full body is even better, since your shoes or paws show under the sheet. Add a second photo for a best friend, your partner or your dog, or use one photo of the two of you.

  2. 2

    Keep Ghost Photoshoot selected

The effect is already picked on this page: 10 seconds, vertical 9:16, with sound. The price shows on the button before you press Make.

  3. 3

    Make it and post

It takes a few minutes. Download the MP4 and post it to TikTok, Reels or Shorts with #ghostphotoshoot. A failed render is never charged.

Casting

Who to put under the sheet

The ghost photoshoot is never scary, so it works for everyone: a best-friend tradition, a family Halloween post or the dog's big moment. Use photos of your own children only; anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to agree.

Your dog or cat

The most shared version of the trend. One clear photo of your pet, and it gets a sheet sized to it with its ears poking through.

Best friends

Two matching ghosts holding hands on the path, then leaning on each other for the photo. A photo of each of you, or one together.

You and your pet

Photo 1 is you, photo 2 is your dog: two ghosts, one big and one small, and both reveals at the end.

A parent and a child

A cosy family Halloween post with no costume shopping. One photo of the two of you works well.

Photo tips

Tips for a better ghost photoshoot

Show the face

The face only shows at the start and at the reveal, so make it count: front-facing, evenly lit, no sunglasses in the photo.

Pets: ears to paws

A sharp photo of the whole pet, at its level, helps the sheet fit and keeps its coat and markings right.

Good shoes help

Your shoes are the only part of your outfit that shows under the sheet. Sneakers or boots in the photo carry through.

Make a set

Every render poses a little differently. Make two or three and post them as a carousel, the way the original photoshoots were posted.

FAQ

AI ghost photoshoot: questions

What is the ghost photoshoot trend?

A TikTok and Instagram trend where people pose in a plain white bedsheet with eye holes, often with sunglasses on top, in ordinary places like an autumn path or a field. It started in September 2020 and comes back every October, usually set to Jack Stauber's "Oh Klahoma".

Can I do the ghost photoshoot with AI, without a sheet?

Yes. Add one photo and the effect makes the whole shoot: the sheet going on, the walk, two posed shots and the reveal. You don't need a sheet, a photographer or a location.

Can I do the ghost photoshoot with my dog?

Yes, and it is the most popular version. Add a photo of your dog (or cat) on its own, or a photo of you and a photo of your dog for two ghosts. The pet stays a real animal with its own coat, a sheet sized to it and its ears poking through.

Can I do it with my best friend?

Yes. Add a photo of each of you, or one photo of the two of you. You walk the path holding hands, pose together on the hay bale and both come out from under the sheet at the end.

Will my face show?

At the start, before the sheet goes on, and at the end, when it comes off. In between you are the ghost, like in the real trend. That is why a clear, front-facing photo matters.

Is it a photo or a video?

A 10-second vertical video with sound, made like a little photoshoot: the frame holds still for a beat on each pose. Pause on a pose or take a screenshot if you want a still for a carousel.

Does it use the song "Oh Klahoma"?

No, the video comes with an original ukulele tune and shutter clicks. If you want the trend's song, pick "Oh Klahoma" from the TikTok or Instagram sound library when you post and turn the original sound down.

How long is it, and what does it cost?

10 seconds by default; you can pick 5 to 15. The credits show on the button before you press Make, a failed render is never charged, and pack credits never expire. See the price box above for the exact numbers.

Is it scary?

No. It is the cute, cosy kind of ghost: golden autumn light, sunglasses, a little pumpkin and a laugh at the end. No blood, no masks, nothing that would scare a child.

Do I need an app or a prompt?

Neither. It runs in the browser on a phone or a laptop, and the place, the sheet, the poses and the sound are already set. You only add the photo.

Your ghost photoshoot, without the sheet

One photo of you, your friend or your dog in; a 10-second ghost photoshoot with sound out in a few minutes. A failed render is never charged.
