1. Collect the details
A rap about someone works when it could only be about them. Write down:
- Three facts: where they're from, what they do, what they're known for.
- One habit: always late, always eating, always on the phone.
- One win: a job, a race, a degree, surviving a bad week.
- One joke that only your friends get.
Specific beats clever. "Drives a 2004 Corolla like it's a Lambo" says more than "he's cool".
2. Write the hook first
The hook is the line people repeat. Make it short, two lines at most, and put the name in it:
Nobody does it like Dani, / late to the party but she's still the party.
Everything else supports the hook.
3. Rhyme without forcing it
- Rhyme the last word of each pair of lines. That's enough for a simple verse.
- Near-rhymes are fine. "Late / day", "phone / alone", "city / pretty".
- Don't twist the sentence to land a rhyme. If it sounds unnatural, change the line, not the grammar.
- Use rhymes inside the line once you're comfortable: "Got the crown and the town on lock".
4. Keep the flow
- Count the beats. Most simple raps fit four stresses per line. Clap along as you read.
- Keep lines a similar length. A line twice as long as the others is hard to rap.
- Leave room to breathe. Short lines hit harder than crowded ones.
5. Read it out loud
Rap it to any instrumental. Every word you trip on, cut or swap. Most first drafts get 20% shorter here, and better.
A simple template
Hook: [Name] does it like nobody, [their thing] every single day
Line: From [their town] to [where they are now], [a win] on the way
Line: [Their habit], yeah we know it, [friendly roast]
Line: But when it counts, [what they're great at], that's why we raise a toastFill in the brackets, then rewrite until it sounds like you.
The quick way: an AI rap video
If you'd rather skip the writing, RapVideo AI writes and performs it:
- Add a photo of the person (or two photos, so you rap together).
- Type a topic like "Dani, always late, just got her first nursing job".
- Get an original rap, lip-synced, with a beat, in about 3 minutes.
A standard 12-second video is 10 credits. For topic ideas, see 50 rap topic ideas.
Questions
Can I upload my own lyrics to RapVideo AI? No. You type a topic of up to 120 characters and the AI writes the lyrics. Put the key details and names in the topic.
How long should a rap about someone be? For a video message, 8 to 16 lines is plenty. On social media, the first 10 seconds matter most.
Can I make a rap about a friend as a gift? Yes. A birthday rap song or a funny birthday video are the usual ways. Only use photos of people who agreed.
